I tried making a paleo pizza today using this recipe. It was awful, actually. While it did not really taste bad, it was not at all like pizza. Hopefully I can find other occasional uses for the almond flour. I don’t think the bread substitutes are my thing.

Day two was not so bad. While I did not really feel motivated to write about it, I had quite a bit of energy. Eggs and bacon for breakfast, Salad for lunch, and grilled Swai (with asparagus, mushrooms, onions & brussel’s sprouts) for dinner.

I played racquetball for about an hour with my good friend Kendall and worked on some web stuff most of the day.

Tomorrow, I plan to purchase some almond flour and cocoanut meal. While the main point of paleo, in my opinion, is to not eat ‘processed’ foods – I have never attempted making any complex paleo foods, like pizza.

First and foremost, most of these alternative flours are over priced. Secondly, they tend not to be worth it (they don’t taste so great).

So tomorrow, it’s paleo pizza and preparing for Arkansas.

For the past several months, I have been off-and-on trying out a paleo diet. During this time I have noticed positive results, but it has been challenging to stick to this type of eating. Most of the research that I have done on paleolithic (or caveman style) dieting, has suggesting that it is less of a diet plan and more of a lifestyle change. With that mentality, I have only really adopted it about 60% (percentages are fun) of the time.

At the beginning of the year, I set some physical goals for myself:

Climb a 5.12

Weigh around 190 lbs

Do 40 consecutive pull-ups

Full paleo lifestlye integration

Here it is, year of our lord March, 2012 and I am sad to report that aside from some minor weight loss, I am not on my way to achieving these goals. To kick myself into gear and start headstrong into these goals, I have decided to do a 90 day paleo challenge. During this time, I will be eating a healthy balanced paleo-style diet, doing natural exercises (barefoot running, heavy lifting), rock climbing more, and training to reach my goals.

What you can expect

For the next 90 days, this blog will serve one purpose. I will post each day. Each post will cover an overview of what I have eaten, what types of physical activity I have done, how energetic I feel, and anything else I consider interesting about my day.

Most every exercise/diet plan that I have ever seen (and boy have I seen a lot), has suggested that 90 days is a good basis to analyze change. So for the next 90 days, I will be doing just that – monitoring change.

Aside from generally eating better and being more physical, I will adhere to no set-in-stone plan or routines.

Sound fun? Join me in this exploration of the physical self and we’ll see just how much some dedication and a little self reflection can change the way we feel in all aspects of life.

Day one

I started off day one having a delicious breakfast of two eggs, two pieces of turkey bacon, some crisped kale (just dropped it in the frying pan for a bit) and some coffee. So very tasty.

Food breakdown

Breakfast

Two eggs

Two slices of turkey bacon

1 tbsp Sriracha

2-3 stems of kale

1 cup of coffee

Lunch

Two lettuce wraps with oven roasted sliced turkey breast

Dinner

6oz lamb steak

1/4 cup sliced onions, bell pepper, mushrooms, and beets

1/2 cup steamed broccoli stems

All in all, I would say day one went pretty well. I didn’t end up doing any pull-up training, but I compensated by climbing for a couple of hours. OKC’s premiere climbing gym, Rocktown, has all new routes. Hours of fun.

See you tomorrow.
